March is a month of the surprising return of the green wild plants and bitter herbs, the emerging of the violets and dandelions, and the buds on the trees. I say surprising because I am always astonished and grateful to see the baby nettles starting their skyward return, the buds swelling on the cottonwood trees, and the yarrow leaves greening up in the sunlight and warming earth. It feels like a sigh of relief echoing out through the plants.
March is a time to wake up our entire physical & mental system with fresh and herby bitter salads and greens, delicious ferments, and brightly colored vegetables and fruits. Incorporating as many spring plants and colors into your diet as possible will attune your system to the seasonal changes, and keep you healthy in the last gasps of cool weather. This book includes some of my new favorite treats, and I look forward to hearing and reading about your creations.
