The Fall Equinox is the time of year when the Earth is not tilted towards or away from the Sun. The meaning of Equinox is Equal (equus) and Night (nox). In the Southern Hemisphere, they are celebrating the promise of Spring and the returning vibrance of the plants and warmer temperatures, while in the Northern Hemisphere, this day signals the oncoming hibernation, harvest and darkening of the days towards winter.
In recent times, we have been running up against the contrast to this balance, and looking for ways to ground into what is present while also acknowledging all that is happening. There is so much work we can and will do, and it is essential to take care of ourselves in the process so that we have the energy to do the work.
For myself, tending the land and being in nature is essential for my being, as well as, making food and sharing it in community. September is one of my favorite months for food, as the harvest is coming in from the fields to the mountains and everywhere in between. The colors and flavors are hinting towards the oncoming winter months, and everything is coming to fruition.
Enjoy this month of seasonal, gluten, dairy and refined-sugar free healing foods with some of my favorite treats like Nettle Donuts and Hand Pies with a Dosa-inspired filing!
